'Nosferatu' Duo Reunite for Eggers’ 'Werwulf' — Fans Are Split

Is Robert Eggers quietly doing what Universal couldn’t for years? It almost seems that way. After turning heads with his stylish vampire tale Nosferatu, Eggers is now set to explore werewolves — and he’s bringing some familiar faces along for the ride.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who starred in Nosferatu, will once again team up with Eggers for this new gothic horror called Werwulf. Lily-Rose Depp, who led the chilling vampire film, is also in talks to join. Eggers co-wrote the script with Icelandic writer Sjón (the pair last worked together on The Northman), and the film is already lined up for a Christmas Day 2026 release across North America.

Sounds like a promising reunion, right? Well, not everyone’s convinced. Some fans have been pretty harsh.

One flat-out said, "He was the worst part of Nosferatu. You could sense the impatience the other actors had with him in each scene." Another piled on with, "And she was the second worst part. Honestly surprised they’re getting another crack."

But it’s not all doom and gloom. Others see potential. In fact, there was an indirect nod that Lily-Rose Depp has proven to be a fairly capable actress — just preferably without certain pop stars around. That’s a playful dig at her role in The Idol, which, for many, was about as comfortable to watch as pulling teeth. As one commenter joked,

"Unless The Weeknd is cast as the wolf in this, we should be safe."

Then there’s perhaps the most interesting take: "Eggers is going to f**k around and make the 'Dark Universe' that Universal failed at for a decade."

And honestly… wouldn’t that be something? With Eggers’ eye for myth, mood, and the macabre, a proper monster universe might actually be worth sinking our teeth into.
