Not Only The Ballad, Another Hunger Games Project Officially Going Live in 2024
The Hunger Games franchise continues to flourish as apart from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes TV show, another new project is premiering this November.
- The Hunger Games franchise is having a resurgence in popularity despite remaining relatively quiet since 2015’s release of Mockingjay – Part 2.
- A new TV show called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be released on November 17, but it’s not the only upcoming Hunger Games project.
- A new live stage adaptation of the first The Hunger Games novel created by acclaimed playwright and director will premiere in London this November.
Despite what many skeptics used to say back in the day, The Hunger Games turned out to be way more than “just another Twilight- ish series.” After the books turned into the movies that launched Jennifer Lawrence, the now-iconic Hollywood star, to international stardom, the fan base kept growing in size and never lost interest.
Not too long ago, we learned that a live-action adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s prequel book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is set to be released this November. While huge and exciting news on its own, this TV show turned out to not be the only update for The Hunger Games fans; another project is coming soon.
Why Is The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Important?
After Suzanne Collins’s original book series became popular, it wasn’t long until a movie adaptation came around. With four movies for three books, the live-action The Hunger Games was a huge success — but the last installment was released in 2015, over eight years ago. Fans of the franchise were worried that it would slowly die off.
The upcoming release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes TV show reveals that the interest in The Hunger Games is still very much there, and the franchise is still going strong. Apart from introducing another intriguing story from Panem, it also instills hope that more projects will follow — and this hope just turned out to be true.
Because apart from The Ballad’s November 17, there’s another project coming.
What’s the New Hunger Games Project All About?
We’ve already watched live-action adaptations of The Hunger Games; now, it’s time for a just-live adaptation. That’s right: The Hunger Games will soon premiere on a stage as a proper play! For now, only the first book was adapted for a theatrical run, but after its (inevitable?) success, the rest of the trilogy will most definitely follow.
The brand-new play will premiere in London in November 2023 and will likely break from the boundaries of the UK soon after. There’s no exact information regarding The Hunger Games play’s theatrical run plans; it will likely depend on the original play’s success, but we’re expecting it to come to the US soon enough.
Who Works on The Hunger Games Play?
While the most obvious reaction to a live-stage Hunger Games play is to wonder how in the world something like that giant arena could be adapted for a theater, there are seemingly no reasons to worry about it…for now. The play was created by Conor McPherson, the winner of the Laurence Olivier Award, and he’s not the only star.
The director is none other than Matthew Dunster, the creator of 2:22: A Ghost Story and A Very Very Very Dark Matter. Suzanne Collins, the author of the original books, also took part in the project and claimed that she was “very excited to be collaborating with the amazing team of Conor McPherson and Matthew Dunster as they bring their dynamic and innovative interpretation of The Hunger Games to the London stage.”
