Luckily for the movie, his opinion isn’t that different from all the others.

Osgood Perkins’ new horror movie The Monkey is still almost a month away from being released in theatres, but it has already secured the biggest praise it could ever receive.

Based on Stephen King ’s 1980 novel of the same name, the film confirmed its status of a faithful adaptation during its test screenings about which the first viewers said pretty much the same thing. A bunch of early reviews was then joined by a digital note from King himself, and he seems to side with those who got to see The Monkey ahead of its theatrical release.

Stephen King Praises The Monkey and Calls It “Batsh-t Insane”

Not much time passed since the movie’s first reviews flooded social media, and Stephen King also had something to say about the upcoming adaptation the other day.

The author took to his Threads account to describe his feelings about the film, promising fans that “you’ve never seen anything like THE MONKEY. It’s batsh*t insane. As someone who has indulged in batsh*ttery from time to time, I say that with admiration”.

It seems like the author was pretty much fond of the movie’s mix of horror and comedy, which was what early critics also noted while praising The Monkey in their reviews.

The Monkey Is an Emotional Roller Coaster with The Gentlemen ’s Star as a Lead

Starring Theo James in a double role, The Monkey follows twin brothers Hal and Bill who discover their father’s long-forgotten vintage toy monkey in their house’s attic. Without realising it, the brothers accidentally bring the toy back to life and set up a chain of mysterious and horrifying deaths which they try to stop by getting rid of the cursed monkey.

As expected, this doesn’t help, and now Hal and Bill have to face the consequences of their actions by finding another way to stop the whole madness.

The movie also stars Elijah Wood in one of the leading roles and is set to hit the theatres worldwide on February 21.
