'Old Guard 2' Ends on a Cliffhanger — Charlize Theron Says the Team’s Taking a Breather. Sequel Incoming?

The final twist lands hard, just like Theron’s action scenes.
Charlize Theron is no stranger to action, but even she admits her latest stunt in The Old Guard 2 pushed things to a new level. Speaking at a recent fundraiser for her Africa Outreach Project, the Oscar-winner recalled hanging off a helicopter for one of the film’s most intense sequences.
"If I pull this off, I’m gonna be okay with never doing a stunt again," she said — though, by her own admission, that didn’t last long. The scene required weeks of careful prep and trust-building with the pilot, but by the end, she was in the air and loving it. "I’m going to never be able to stop saying that I hung off a helicopter." Fair enough.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, The Old Guard 2 reunites its core cast — including KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor — and introduces new players like Uma Thurman and Henry Golding. The plot picks up with the group of immortal warriors facing a new threat from within.
The film wraps on what’s been described as a 'spectacular cliffhanger', prompting speculation about a third instalment. Producer Marc Evans has already teased that the ending "kind of demands a No. 3," and many fans would likely agree.
Theron, who also serves as producer, isn’t ruling anything out. But for now, the cast and crew are taking a well-earned pause. "We’re going to take a break, take a little breather, and then we’ll come back and decide," she said. Which is Hollywood-speak for: don’t hold your breath, but don’t give up hope either.
In the meantime, Theron has other plans in motion — including a role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Odyssey and, perhaps one day, stepping behind the camera herself.
"I’ve always kind of been interested," she admitted. "But I have young children, and to direct is very all-consuming… I need my kids to get out of the house."
A fair enough reason, wouldn’t you say?
