Oppenheimer may have an all-star cast, but one actor has generated more buzz than the film's lead.
Josh Peck is one person no one really expected to see in Christopher Nolan's biopic (though his casting and role were announced back in March 2022), but we are all the better for it.
In Oppenheimer, Peck, who is most notably known for his comedic performances, plays Kenneth Bainbridge, a scientist who was involved in the Manhattan Project. The actor's role is far from being a main one, but there is one scene where he simply steals the show.
At one point, Josh makes an expression that is all too familiar to millennials, especially those who are or used to be huge Nickelodeon fans. Let us explain.
Josh Peck was a star on the Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh in the early 2000s. The show focused on two teenage stepbrothers, played by Josh Peck and Drake Bell, and their antics, which frequently involved them getting in trouble due to the misdeeds of their devilish sister Megan (portrayed by iCarly actress Miranda Cosgrove).
In the series, the two brothers were often the butt of Megan's jokes and pranks, which resulted in them screaming her name and making an annoyed face. This expression came to be known as the "Megan face," and it is the reason so many people were transported back to the good old days while watching Oppenheimer – Peck basically made the same expression.
Twitter users have quickly come up with memes about the whole thing. One fan even did a side-by-side of Josh's "Megan face" in Drake & Josh and Oppenheimer, and it's like those spot-the-difference pictures!
People are now joking that it was Megan all along who taught Josh Peck's character to help build the atomic bomb in the movie (and we know that she is capable of anything!).
All kidding aside, Josh Peck's performance in Oppenheimer is outstanding. He has always had a knack for comedy, but to see him take on more dramatic roles and succeed is just as great.
