What does it take to bring the most prominent actor of our time out of retirement?

Summary:

  • Recently, Daniel Day-Lewis, who announced his retirement from movies, appeared at a public event where he presented an award to Martin Scorsese.
  • Scorsese hinted that he would like to make another movie with Day-Lewis, as working with him was one of the most incredible experiences of his life.
  • It is not yet known if Day-Lewis will return for such an offer, but the person who can persuade him is Leonardo DiCaprio, one of Scorsese's regular actors.
  • DiCaprio has already persuaded Day-Lewis to star in Steven Spielberg 's Lincoln and Scorsese's Gangs of New York.

One movie every five years – that’s about how often Daniel Day-Lewis has been making films for the last quarter century. And then he announced that he was done with movies, without any comment.

The actor does not give interviews, communicates with few people, and everyone is wondering if he will ever act again, and what it would take for that to happen.

Daniel Day-Lewis Made a Rare Public Appearance

Recently, Day-Lewis appeared in public, and considering the fact that he does not appear at any events at all, this is a really important case.

Day-Lewis presented Martin Scorsese an award for Killers of the Flower Moon at the NBR Awards Gala. Day-Lewis, who has collaborated with Scorsese on some of the best flicks of his whole career – 1993's The Age of Innocence and 2002's Gangs of New York – gave a heartwarming speech about Scorsese's talents and the director's influence on his life.

Accepting the award from the actor's hands, Scorsese admitted that working with the actor was one of the most incredible experiences of his life, and then casually dropped the phrase:

“Maybe there's time for one more. One more movie!”

Leonardo DiCaprio Can Persuade Day-Lewis to Return

Perhaps the chances of Day-Lewis’ return to the cinema are greater than ever now – fans of the actor know that the man thanks to whom Daniel's filmography was replenished with two already cult films was Leonardo DiCaprio, who is one of Scorsese's regular actors.

Day-Lewis rejected Steven Spielberg's offer to play Abraham Lincoln in the movie Lincoln for several years, but in the end it helped that Leonardo DiCaprio had some kind of secret master key to Day-Lewis’ heart and was able to persuade him.

More than a decade earlier, DiCaprio had helped Martin Scorsese, who wanted Day-Lewis for Gangs of New York, but the actor had been out of the business for about five years and was living in Italy, working as a shoemaker.

DiCaprio literally lured Day-Lewis to the US on a false pretense, and there he and Scorsese persuaded the actor, who after that started to chop meat, sharp knives, practice his New York accent, and nearly died of cold from refusing to put on a warmer coat (because his character didn't have one).

Most articles about Daniel Day-Lewis are filled with outrage. How can he bury his brilliant talent? And in all of us there is hope that we will see Day-Lewis on the screen again.

Maybe someone with the first name Martin and the last name Scorsese should call Leonardo DiCaprio.
