Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein recently announced that they have finished writing the script for the sequel, and Hasbro, the owner of the franchise rights, is seeking a new studio to produce the movie.

In an interview with The Playlist, the filmmakers shared optimistic news about the sequel's future. Jonathan Goldstein confirmed that Hasbro is still confident in the project and is hoping to reach an agreement with a new studio:

“I think Hasbro is a big believer in it, and if they can figure out a studio partner to make it work, they’ll want to proceed, as will our producers.”

John Francis Daley added that the team already has a script ready:

“There's so much potential in a sequel because the first act isn't filled with exposition or introductions to this family that we've already become accustomed to. You can kind of launch right into the story, which is really nice.

Who knows if it ever gets made, but we were proud of the sequel script and hope that, at some point, it does find a path.”

Why Did 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' Flop Commercially?

The directors explained why the movie failed to achieve the expected box office returns. They cited the poor choice of release date as the main reason: Honor Among Thieves was released in March 2023, just four days before The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a worldwide hit that grossed over $1.3 billion, hit theaters.

Additionally, a month prior, Wizards of the Coast changed the game's licensing agreement, prompting a boycott among D&D fans.

Daley admitted that the marketing failed to convey to a wider audience that the movie could appeal to more than just board game fans. Now, the creators hope the sequel will correct these mistakes.

'Honor Among Thieves' Is a Perfect Fantasy Adventure That Deserved More Love

Honor Among Thieves is both a gripping blockbuster and a heartfelt story. Directing duo Goldstein and Daley have created a film that immerses us in a whirlwind of chases, battles, and magic from the very beginning, without burdening them with tedious rules or backstories.

The movie's visual world is captivating, from the monsters and incredible animal hybrids to the spells and epic battles – it's impossible to take your eyes off it.

Despite going through several potential directors and leads and having the script repeatedly rewritten, the result is a cohesive, witty, and captivating adventure.
