Originally scheduled to air in 2023, the release date for the highly anticipated dystopian K-drama has now been confirmed.

Summary

  • This dystopian K-drama is finally coming to our screens.
  • It offers a unique look at life in the face of the apocalypse.
  • Some famous faces from Korean TV will be starring in it.

Sometimes a show comes along that intrigues audiences with a premise that straddles fiction and reality in a way that seems impossible and possible in almost equal measure.

These shows are typically dystopian, exploring cataclysmic events that we think won't happen, but deep down know could. That's why The Last of Us did so well last year. Now, K-dramaland is getting in on the act with a series that explores what would happen if the end of the world were just months away.

A new take on a well-used theory

Based on the novel The Fool at the End of the World by Kōtarō Isaka, the new Korean series Goodbye Earth looks at the idea of Armageddon from a different perspective.

Set in South Korea, it explores how society might react to the announcement that an asteroid will collide with Earth in just 200 days.

The revelation leads to the imposition of martial law, and society splits into two camps. Some want to make the most of their last months on Earth, and others simply don't believe it's true. The clash between these two sides is imminent and can only lead to violence and chaos.

But can anyone really be sure what they think is going to happen?

When will it be available on Netflix?

Goodbye Earth has been a long time coming. It was first announced in 2022 that the series would be available for streaming in 2023. But the premiere was unfortunately delayed after one of the show's stars, Yoo Ah-in, faced some personal issues. Last month, rumors of a possible April release began to circulate, and now the exact date has been confirmed.

All 12 episodes of Goodbye Earth will be available to stream starting on April 26, 2024.

Who are the stars and main characters?

Ah-in plays Yoon Sang-eun, a scientist at a biotechnology research center. He's the partner of Jin Se-kyung (played by Ahn Uhn-jin), a middle school teacher with a dark secret. Jeon Sung-woo plays the assistant priest Woo Seong-jae, who took over the duties of the head priest when he disappeared when the impending collision was announced. Kim Yoon-hye plays the military commander Kang In-ah.
