'One Piece' Season 2 Finale, Explained & What to Expect From Season 3
Let's find out who Crocodile is, how Luffy is connected to Gol D. Roger, what secret Chopper is keeping, and when to expect a new chapter.
All eight episodes of the second season of One Piece were released on Netflix on March 10th. This adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's iconic manga series continues to delight fans with its wacky action, heartwarming moments, and stunning locations.
The Season 2 finale left viewers with many unanswered questions and mysterious hints that will surely be revealed in the third season, which has already been confirmed.
Who Is Crocodile & Why Does He Want to Start a War in Alabasta?

In the Season 2 finale, the identity of Mr. 0, the leader of the criminal organization Baroque Works, is revealed. It turns out that he is the pirate Sir Crocodile, whose bounty the World Government inexplicably revoked.
Crocodile then sets in motion a plan to destroy the Kingdom of Alabasta and trigger a civil war. In the manga, his motives are linked to the legendary Pluton warship, which is hidden in Alabasta.
With this weapon, Crocodile would become one of the most powerful forces in the Grand Line. Furthermore, Alabasta is outside the World Government's jurisdiction, making an attack virtually risk-free.
How Is Luffy Related to Gol D. Roger and What Is the Will of D.?
In the second season, hints about Luffy's connection to the legendary pirate become more apparent. Smoker notices that Luffy laughs in the face of death, just as Roger did before his execution.
Dr. Kureha, Chopper's mentor, says that Luffy reminds her of Roger and mentions the mysterious Will of D. Flashbacks reveal that despite their feud, Luffy's grandfather, Vice Admiral Garp, and Roger respected each other.
Roger even asked Garp to take care of his son. This led to rumors that Luffy is Roger's son. However, this is not the case in the manga – Roger's son is Portgas D. Ace, whom Garp raised at the pirate's request.
Netflix has confirmed that Ace will appear in the third season, played by Xolo Maridueña.
The Will of D. refers to a special spiritual connection between people bearing the initial D, who are united by a desire for freedom and a commitment to fighting the World Government. The meaning of the initial D. remains a mystery.
What Is Chopper's Secret?

Tony Tony Chopper becomes the ship's doctor for the Straw Hat Pirates, but he is keeping a secret. When he said goodbye to his mentor, Kureha, they had a huge fight – but it was merely a sign of affection from the eccentric doctor.
As she packed her backpack for the journey, Kureha secretly slipped a jar of golden balls into it. These are the Rumble Balls, a drug that temporarily grants additional transformations to those who have eaten a Devil Fruit.
Thanks to the Hito Hito no Mi, Chopper learned to speak and assume different forms – three of these forms are shown in the series. However, the side effects of this "doping" are dangerous, so Chopper is keeping its existence a secret from the crew for now.
Will Vivi Join Luffy's Crew?
Vivi, the princess of Alabasta, infiltrated Baroque Works and now travels with Luffy's crew. She has even been announced as a temporary member, however, her goal is to save her kingdom, not to search for One Piece.
In the manga, Vivi is a temporary companion, and the series will likely follow this plot. The second season, however, briefly introduced two future permanent crew members: the musician Brook and Nico Robin, who defects to Luffy's side in the manga.
When Will 'One Piece' Season 3 Be Released & What Will It Be About?
Filming for the third season of One Piece began in November 2025. If production continues at this pace, the premiere is expected to be in early to mid-2027.
The main action will take place in Alabasta. Luffy and his crew will meet King Cobra and assist him in saving the kingdom from Crocodile.
