‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 Ending Explained: The Truth Behind Lester’s Death and That Final Twist
Teddy Coluca’s lovely Arconia doorman became the victim in season 4’s finale, leading up to the revelation of Only Murders in the Building’s new villain in this instalment.
Things at Arconia in Only Murders in the Building’s season 5 have never been messier, though at least another murder case was solved — and one more arrived just minutes after.
The show’s previous instalment ended on the shocking death of Arconia’s beloved doorman Lester, which pushed Charles, Oliver and Mabel to start yet another investigation and uncover something they could have never imagined about the life in their building.
In between the attempts to save Arconia from being demolished and turned into a posh casino, the trio managed to figure out what happened to Lester on that fateful night — and this time the identity of the killer was not less shocking than Lester’s death itself.
Who Murdered Lester in ‘Only Murders in the Building’? (Heavy Spoilers Ahead!)
In the fifth season’s finale, it’s revealed that Mayor Beau Tillman, played by Keegan-Michael Key throughout the entire instalment, was the one who killed Lester — though accidentally.
In the retrospective and pretty much villain-like dialogue, Tillman recounts the events of the night that Nicky Caccimelio: the two were at the casino in the building’s basement when Nicky found out about Tillman’s affair with his wife Sofia and confronted the Mayor.
Within the moments, the mobster cuts off Tillman’s finger, and Lester decides to defend the latter, hoping to finally end all those criminal encounters in Arconia.
Grabbing Tillman’s finger, Lester runs away to the building’s courtyard where he’s chased by the Mayor. In the final confrontation, Lester falls in the fountain and hits his head, thus dying moments later.
In his monologue, however, Tillman admits to have killed Lester, though it’s all clear about the doorman’s death being accidental.
Who Dies in ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 Finale?
Following the tradition, the show’s new instalment has just teased another shocking murder happening in Arconia (or rather right beside it) and falling into the hands of Charles, Oliver and Mabel to investigate.
In the final episode, the leading trio gets together to listen to Cinda Canning’s new true crime show titled “The Girl with the Curls”, which recounts a story about a woman being wrongfully accused of murdering a royal family member.
At the same time, a woman collapses near Arconia and dies, and it’s soon revealed that Cinda Canning herself has become the new victim whose death will be investigated in Only Murders in the Building’s season 6.
