Only One Cast Member Can Save Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice Adaptation, Fans Think
Some are “hopeful, but sceptical” after the streamer’s recent announcement.
It’s never good news when the old beloved classic is dragged out of the well-deserved rest, but Hollywood keeps testing everyone’s patience.
Movie fans have been divided by the overwhelming amount of remakes recently, and one more is about to cause even more trouble: Netflix ’s own take on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice has just been announced, with some more news regarding the future limited series’ star-packed cast.
Despite Emma Corrin admitting she expects “a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again”, the whole idea wasn’t met with as much enthusiasm as the show’s creators probably wanted to see.
However, fans might be ready to give it a chance thanks to just one cast member.

The news about Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden being confirmed for the leading roles wasn’t that encouraging for the story’s devoted fans whatsoever, but someone else’s actually was.
“Olivia Coleman being cast as Mrs Bennet makes feel like the chances of this being a good adaptation have just increased. She is always impressive in any role she does and has a strong established career that allows her to pick and choose the projects she wants to be involved in. So if she likes the script enough to sign up there is hope yet of a good adaptation”, Redditor Kalpothyz wrote in a thread created for the discussion.
Others, like Brave_Grapefruit2891, admitted they aren’t ready to regain hope in Netflix’s good decisions, but “I trust Olivia Coleman and Emma Corrin to choose good scripts”.
Everyone Lost Their Faith in Netflix After 2022’s Persuasion
Bringing Jane Austin’s hit novel back to the screen wouldn’t be that much of a problem if many weren’t triggered by Netflix’s previous attempt to adapt the authoress’ other story just a couple of years ago.
Persuasion, based on Austin’s novel of the same name, starred Dakota Johnson and Cosmo Jarvis; the cast didn’t save the movie from failing dramatically.

- On IMDb, Persuasion was rated 5.8/10
“I'm still going to give it chance, but I just really don't know how to feel about this casting. I'm still salty about the Netflix Persuasion adaptation so I'm not holding my breath”, Mariposita48 wrote in the same thread.
AprilRain21, meanwhile, agreed, saying that “Netflix did a terrible job with Persuasion”.
LuxandGold chimed in too, admitting that Pride and Prejudice’s next adaptation doesn’t sound very inspiring since “after Netflix butchering Persuasion... my hopes are low”.
