Oscars 2025 Snub Continues a Sad Trend for Margaret Qualley

The Oscar nominations are finally in, and, following the same old yearly tradition, the Academy just couldn’t get away with some really audacious snubs.

Things could’ve been way worse had the critics ignored Fernanda Torres whose performance fans across the globe were cheering on for months, but even her not being mentioned at some prestigious awards ceremonies can’t compare to Margaret Qualley whose Oscars snub is about to make waves ahead of the awards season’s conclusion.

Margaret Qualley Was Deprived of Oscar Nomination for Her Substance Role

The actress has long captivated critics’ and viewers’ attention with all the versatility of her roles in all kinds of indie movies, but the real success came along with Coralie Fargeat’s 2024 body horror Substance where Qualley landed one of the leading roles. The actress’ co-star Demi Moore was earlier awarded with a Golden Globe and has just become an Oscar nominee as one of the contenders for Best Actress, yet Qualley herself was left with nothing.

Although, it didn’t take long for her fans across the world to express all their rage and disappointment in social media, with one user on X saying that “the other performances are definitely as good and I'm not saying she would've won but she definitely deserved a nom” while others claimed that Qualley is way more deserving of a nomination rather than Zoe Salsaña for Emilia Pérez or Ariana Grande for Wicked.

Amid all the fuss that the Academy has just caused, some fans tried to calm everyone else down saying that not everything in the cinema industry boils down to the Oscars.

“Snubbed but not forgotten! Margaret Qualley's powerful performance in 'The Substance' deserves recognition beyond the Oscars,” said X user mekak_ali.

Others chose a more creative way to express their feelings as some called Qualley’s snub “a crime” and said they “need her to recreate the ending scene.”

Margaret Qualley Is Actually The Biggest Snub at This Year’s Awards Season

Apart from the fact that Qualley didn’t even get into the list of Oscar nominees, the actress also had no luck at other major awards events so far. Qualley’s performance was praised during some festivals last year, yet she eventually didn’t get a Golden Globe, unlike Demi Moore, and wasn’t even nominated for BAFTA.

These two probably determined the actress’ fate at the upcoming Oscars ceremony since the Golden Globes and BAFTA are traditionally the most precise predictors of the Oscars’ nominees and winners.
