Paramount Resurrects 'World War Z' 2 — And Here’s Why I’m Still Ready After 12 Years

The record-breaking zombie epic might finally get its due.
World War Z 2 is finally clawing its way out of 12 years in development hell. The 2013 Brad Pitt-led blockbuster still holds the title of highest-grossing zombie movie ever — no small feat for a genre not exactly known for reinvention.
I remember thinking at the time that Marc Forster’s film was a proof that undead cinema could still surprise. Now, with Paramount–Skydance reviving the project, I’m torn between excitement and curiosity about what they’ll dare to do next.
Back from the Dead
The revival comes from the new Paramount–Skydance leadership, fresh off their merger and eager to capitalise on proven IP. Co-film chief Josh Greenstein name-checked World War Z alongside Top Gun 3 and Star Trek as part of an ambitious 15-films-a-year plan — impressive, though it does sound a bit like a conveyor belt.
The Online Pulse
Curious what others thought, I took a stroll through Reddit.
Enrico_Tortellini thinks the timing is no accident: with 28 Years Later so well received and a trilogy planned, "they plan to piggy back off that success."
CineDog has a wish many fans would echo: "Can we have David Fincher to direct?"
Megatanis reminds everyone of the source material: "Very good book, kind of meh movie (had its moments though). If they stay close to the book, it could be great. But it’s not going to fit in one movie."
Will Lightning Strike Twice?
The first film’s road to release was notoriously bumpy, yet it pulled in over $540 million worldwide and gave us one of the most memorable swarm scenes in modern action-horror.
Now, with a fresh studio mandate and a horror-friendly market, the undead may finally be shuffling back onto the big screen.
