There is practically no chance that the project will be successful. The predecessors are too good.

Pedro Pascal has a dream. Not just a new role, but practically a fetish: the actor admitted that he always wanted to play Dr. Hannibal Lecter - a genius, a maniac and an aesthetic monster all rolled into one. In an interview with Vogue, he said this with a smile, but absolutely seriously.

Considering his career - from The Mandalorian to The Last of Us - it seems that he now has both the popularity and the weight to ask for anything. But here's the problem: even with such a background, Pedro as Lecter is like a garlic latte. Doesn't go together.

No, Pascal is not a bad actor. On the contrary, he is charismatic, warm, human. From the very first scenes, he evokes sympathy, even when he plays tough characters. But that's the thing: he is too charming, too soulful to become truly scary.

And Lecter is not just a villain. He is an intellectual horror that hypnotizes, frightens and repels at the same time. That's how he was with Anthony Hopkins. That's how he was - in his own way, predatory and refined - with Mads Mikkelsen.

Even if Pedro tries to approach it from a new angle, the inevitable comparisons with previous Lecters will bury him. Because instead of demonic grace, the viewer will see... well, beloved Joel with a scalpel in his hands at the stove. Affection instead of horror is not the effect you should count on, right? Unless they want to turn the story of the legendary cannibal Lecter into a gloomy rom-com.
