Since the end of 2020, Bridgerton's dramatic romances have captivated viewers. The music, dancing, plotlines, and romance have all made this show the success it is. One thing that's often overlooked is the costumes and how they help to tell the story.

Bridgerton is set in the Regency era in the 1800s. Each character and family has costumes designed exactly to highlight key aspects of their characters.

Bridgerton's Color Palettes

Pastel hues were a favorite in the Regency era. We see the Bridgertons sporting lavenders, light, delicate blues, and pale blue capes. Lady Violet herself will often be seen wearing white too. This pallet demonstrates the Bridgertons' rank and wealth.

In contrast, the Featheringtons are seen in yellows, ranging from peaches to daffodil yellow. This richness of color contrasts with the false richness of their family as they struggle with money troubles. Yellow is also a color that signifies deceit, which is what the family does in making people believe they have money. It also explains Penelope's deceit as Lady Whistledown too.

Bridgerton's second season sees Kate and Edwina Sharma enter as a new family to the series. Kate, the older and bolder sister, wears deep, rich colors that reflect her personality. Her younger sister Edwina, the season's "Diamond" wears more pink and pastel shades, which would have been more typical of ladies during the Regency era.

Penelope's dress – a clue for season 3?

Unlike the books, which follow Benedict Bridgerton's story in the third installment, Bridgerton Season 3 focuses on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (whose love for Colin has been very evident so far).

For those with a keen eye and good deductive reasoning, Penelope, played by Irish actor Nicola Coughlan, leaves the yellow behind in episode 4 of season 2 and dons a green dress. What many have deduced from this is that this is an Easter egg for the impending season 3, which focuses on Penelope and Colin.

Since the Bridgertons tend to wear light blue and the Featheringtons yellow, the potential merger of the two families through Penelope and Colin would produce a green. Could it be that Penelope's dress is foreshadowing this coupling? Bridgerton's costume designer Sophie Canale сonfirmed fans' suspicions to People, admitting that she'd known for a very long time that Season 3 would focus on Penelope and Colin relationship – and that the dress was, indeed, an Easter egg.

We've seen this before

Prior to her marriage with the Duke of Hastings, Daphne Bridgerton wore lots of blues (like all Bridgertons). When she married Simon, who often wears red, she starts to wear lilac. What all this shows is that the costume designers really do think of everything, even if most of us aren't aware until it's pointed out to us!
