It seems that the show's creative team is helping viewers change their minds about the characters, making sure that the mood swings aren't ignored.

The White Lotus is one of those shows where everything happens for a reason. Every little detail is important for the grand story, everything is foreshadowed, and if you watch carefully and make sure you don't miss any clues, there is a chance that you might actually hack the main mystery.

Well, maybe not, but you will still be aware of everything that is going on in the show…

And recently, eagle-eyed fans have noticed a rather obvious shift in the dynamic between the three girlfriends of The White Lotus season 3. Laurie, Jaclyn, and Kate came to the resort together under the guise of being long-time best friends with a shared history dating back to high school. But we soon realise that they are more enemies than even acquaintances.

The writers made sure that we spend some time with each of them, and especially with each of them as a couple, to understand their true attitudes towards each other. So we saw Kate and Jaclyn gossiping about Laurie, Laurie and Kate gossiping about Jaclyn, and Jaclyn and Laurie also talking behind Kate's back.

All three of them know that they are not each other's friends, but they continue to play games. Well, that was the case until the last episode when Laurie started winning the game after all.

Fans noticed that ever since the hookup with Valentin, something changed in Jaclyn’s appearance. The fans of the show even said that she started looking uglier. And apparently it's not a coincidence, but a real thing that's going on in the show, and it became impossible to ignore.

“They definitely have the shadows and the lighting much darker on Jaclyn/Michelle for the last two episodes, it got increasingly worse than the last episode. It was almost to the point that it didn't even look like Michelle Monaghan. It was definitely a conscious Choice by Mike White and the DP to do that to turn the character of Jaclyn around from bright and peppy to darker and unhappy,” Redditor blueskyinla said.

Viewers have also mentioned that while the lighting and everything else has worked for the worse for Jaclyn, Laurie is so much more complimentary now. They even noticed that she was all dolled up in the last episode compared to how she looked and dressed in the first episodes.

“I was sad to see the first few episodes. They made her a side character with very few lines and now she's come out of her shell and they made her look so much better all around. I thought it was just my perception, but no they really intentionally did it that way, which is a really creative way to show the attitude change in the show,” Redditor WiretapStudios said.

So even though the story gives us enough to form an opinion about each of the women, the director's visual choices help us realize who is truly likeable and who is the villain of the piece.

The White Lotus is available to stream on Max.
