Peter Dinklage Didn’t Dream of Playing This Hero — But Now He Owns It

Mutant janitor, toxic powers, and a message we weirdly need.
I didn’t expect to be this excited about a mutant janitor with a mop — but Peter Dinklage in The Toxic Avenger just makes perfect sense. He plays Winston Gooze, a humble janitor who, after a freak accident, mutates into a grotesque but powerful vigilante.
Not your typical hero, and that’s exactly why Peter calls the role perfect — both for him and for the world we live in now.
At Comic-Con, he talked about how the film hits on real environmental issues, but in a wild, satirical way. And honestly, I love that. Heavy themes are easier to digest when they come wrapped in humour and chaos — "through the back door," as he put it.
Peter joked he’s too old to play Superman, but I’d argue Winston is the more interesting hero anyway. Messy, angry, weird — but with a heart. That fits Dinklage’s vibe far better than a spandex suit ever could.
The film's been stuck in release limbo for a while, but it’s finally hitting theatres August 29. And I’ll be first in line — because if anyone can make a toxic mutant cool, funny, and relevant in 2025, it’s Peter Dinklage.
