Peter Dinklage's ‘Toxic Avenger’: Everything You Need to Know

The release date of The Toxic Avenger is closer than you think. Prepare for a terrifyingly hilarious experience starring Peter Dinklage and Elijah Wood.
The Toxic Avenger was shown at Fantastic Fest in September 2023, but it since then has had difficulty finding a distributor due to its “unmarketability” and violent nature. However, in January, Deadline announced that the film is finally coming to theaters. Here's all that you need to know about this crazy upcoming splatter horror.
‘The Toxic Avenger’: What Is the Next Peter Dinklage Movie About?
The Toxic Avenger is a reboot of the 1984 cult classic of the same name. The classic franchise consists of 4 movies, with Peter Dinklage's version making it a 5.
‘The Toxic Avenger’ plot details: we will follow Winston Gooze (Dinklage), an underappreciated janitor whose life takes an explosive turn after a toxic accident. But instead of gaining spider powers or a fancy suit, Winston becomes Toxie.
Is Toxie a hero or a villain? Toxie is a hero. Armed with only a trusty mop and his newfound powers, this unlikely hero is set to fight injustice in the world.
‘The Toxic Avenger’ Long Road to Release
We've already mentioned that the movie had a hard time finding a distributor. During his talk with The Hollywood Reporter, Dinklage expressed hope for The Toxic Avenger, saying:
“I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director who is also in The Thicket… He's incredible. He's one of my favorite people and favorite artists. So hopefully it will have its day in the toxic sun.”
After a long and difficult search, the film has finally found its place under the toxic sun Dinklage was talking about.
‘The Toxic Avenger’ release date: August 29, 2025.

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Toxic Avenger has 92% from critics.
“[The movie] goes beyond being just a genre exercise, and well beyond being a simple remake,” Dan Scully (ScullyVision) wrote.
“No one can accuse The Toxic Avenger of being a watered down remake. It has all the gore and immature comedy that made the original beloved, which is exactly what the post-Marvel superhero genre needs right now,” Fred Topel (United Press International) said.
