Pilou Asbæk Joins a Killer Cast in 'Blood on Snow' Adaptation — But Who’s He Playing?

For those of us keeping an eye on moody crime thrillers, Blood on Snow just became a lot more interesting.

The film, based on Jo Nesbo’s 2015 novel, is currently shooting — and it’s just added Pilou Asbæk to the already stacked cast. Known for his magnetic and menacing turn as Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, Asbæk has a knack for unforgettable villains.

He joins a lineup that already includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Eva Green, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Emma Laird. With names like these, you’d think the roles would be locked in — but Asbæk’s character is still under wraps.

A deliberate move? Could be. Either way, it adds an extra layer of intrigue.

The story follows hitman Olav (played by Taylor-Johnson), who is tasked with killing his boss’s wife — only to fall in love with her. It’s a setup that screams noir: morally messy, emotionally tense, and dripping with atmosphere.

Directed by True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga, the film is co-written by Jo Nesbo and Ben Power. Filming is underway in Latvia — an unusual but promising location for this kind of icy drama. Originally set to star, Tom Hardy exited due to scheduling, and Cumberbatch took over.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Asbæk called the project "an incredible experience" and praised the team behind it.

"The cast and crew are exceptional, and I’m proud to be involved in a project that has so much heart," he said. "I can’t wait for audiences to see it."
