What to expect from new season.

Fans of the comedy series Platonic have been eagerly awaiting news about a second season. Created by and starring Seth Rogen alongside Rose Byrne, the show explores the complexities of friendship with sharp humour and heartfelt moments. Following a successful first season, many are wondering if Platonic will be renewed.

Is Platonic Being Renewed?

Apple TV+ has announced that Platonic Season 2 will premiere globally on Wednesday, 6 August. The 10-episode sophomore season will launch with the first two episodes, followed by weekly instalments every Wednesday until 1 October.

Alongside the announcement, the streamer released first-look images and a teaser trailer.

Co-created, directed and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Season 2 follows the beloved best friends, played by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, as they navigate new mid-life challenges including careers, weddings, and partners in crisis. Despite their efforts to be each other’s pillars of support, sometimes even the strongest foundations can crack.

Speaking at Contenders TV in Los Angeles last month, Stoller assured fans that the characters Sylvia (Byrne) and Will (Rogen) would continue to face their usual mishaps.

“These two characters have their insecurities and issues,” he said. “Those won’t be solved by marriage or starting a wedding planning business. We’re all always the same flawed people. No matter what you do, you’re still dealing with those issues.”

Delbanco and Stoller also confirmed the show remains true to its title. Will and Sylvia remain close friends, with Sylvia happily married.

“It is the lowest-fi idea in history,” Delbanco remarked. “There’s no ‘will they or won’t they?’ They’re just mates. We wanted to represent the possibility that men and women can be friends, and those friendships can offer something different — or something more — than friendships with your own gender.”

Executive producers include Byrne, Stoller, Delbanco and Conor Welch, alongside Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver for Point Grey Pictures. Sony Pictures Television serves as the studio.
