Pleasing gamers with live-action adaptations of their favorite titles is a notoriously tricky business. How is the upcoming Fallout TV show faring so far?

Summary:

  • Prime Video ’s upcoming Fallout TV show recently released the first official clip from the series.
  • In the scene, we witness a ghoul’s attack on a young Vault Dweller interrupted by a BoS paladin’s appearance.
  • Fans have loved the first scene, praising the Fallout showrunners for nailing the visual and comical style of the games.

There are three types of audience who are infamously hard to please when it comes to live-action adaptations: some long-forgotten original attempt’s fans, anime fans, and gamers. The latter group is straight-up notorious for butchering countless attempts to adapt their favorite titles, but that’s only because until recently, Hollywood had no idea how to craft at least tolerable video game adaptations.

But with The Last of Us success, the industry is feeling confident again, tackling even the most popular titles. Prime Video, for one, dared to adapt the Fallout games!

Fallout TV Show Just Dropped Its First Official Scene

The days of trailers are long gone as guys like Prime Video treat their viewers with much more than that. The first clip from the upcoming Fallout series was just released, featuring a one-and-a-half-minute scene from the show. In the clip, we watch as a young Vault Dweller tries her certified persuasion technique on a ghoul — and fails miserably. That’s what happens when you have Charisma at 1.

Thankfully, the Vault Dweller’s Luck seems to be maxed out, because just as the ghoul prepares to end her entire Wasteland career, an entire Brotherhood of Steel paladin shows up Iron Man-style and rushes to the girl’s rescue. The ghoul’s reaction is priceless and mirrors our own: “Are you f*cking kidding me?!”

Fallout Fans Don’t Hold Back on the Show’s First Clip

Admittedly, Prime Video just got their smooth-sailing mandate extended: fans totally loved the first official scene. In the comment section under the clip, X (formerly Twitter) users are praising the showrunners for choosing the right and fun approach.

“I like how [the clip] doesn’t look too polished. Like, this isn’t giving me the ‘over-edited Hollywood movie’ vibes. It’s giving me the ‘this is a passion product film’ vibes and I really appreciate that,” user iKharrma wrote.

Others largely agree with them, admitting that the Fallout showrunners have done a great job with this clip and hoping that the rest of the series also won’t let them down. Gamers might be a tough audience to please, but if you nail it, they’ll love you — and if the Fallout TV show proves worthy, it might make history alongside The Last of Us.
