Quentin Tarantino Says Only Two Directors Can Handle ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ Sequel

Pulp Fiction’s director has a reason to not be involved in Fincher’s upcoming movie that will star Brad Pitt.
Quentin Tarantino hasn’t yet come up with pretty much anything for his next and presumably last movie, at some point even ceding a sequel to his Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood to David Fincher.
However, Tarantino knows why exactly he shouldn’t go back to the same story he directed back in 2019 — and why Fincher is the perfect candidate for directing a long-discussed sequel.
Quentin Tarantino Says He Needs “Uncharted Territory” For His Final Movie
Even though there have been multiple rumours suggesting that Tarantino’s scrapped film titled The Movie Critic would be some sort of a mixture of all the stories he’s developed before, this was eventually debunked by the director himself.
In fact, Tarantino doesn’t want his final move to have anything to do with his previous projects whatsoever, recently revealing that he’s looking for something completely new to develop in the final movie.
“I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked. It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory”, Tarantino said during his appearance on The Church of Tarantino podcast, referring to his decision to let David Fincher direct Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’s sequel.
Quentin Tarantino Calls David Fincher One of “Two Best Directors” — the Second One Is No Mystery Either
Tarantino never hides his admiration for other fellow directors, though he doesn’t hide his admiration for himself either.
During the same talk, the director stated that he couldn’t give the script for the sequel to just anyone out there, so he was glad to see one of the best directors of modern times taking an initiative — and getting some work from the second best director of modern times.
“I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account”, Tarantino said.
