Eerie, playful, and sprinkled with one unmistakable style.

The long-awaited second season of Wednesday is finally (partly) here, and while the shocking plot twist has everyone talking, I couldn’t stop thinking about one specific moment — an animated sequence that screamed classic Burton in the best way.

A School Project With a Burton Twist

This short animated scene in Episode 1 tells the legend of a telekinetic boy who builds a heart with clockwork gears. For me, it felt like Burton was slipping back into The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride territory — playful, eerie, and instantly recognizable.

Here’s the genius part: Burton told his team to imagine they had no budget and that the animation was made by Nevermore students as a school project. That 'imperfect' style makes it feel like part of the story’s world, not just a slick insert. And honestly, it works perfectly.

More Wednesday Is Coming

We’ll get the rest of Season 2 on September 3, but Netflix has already confirmed a third season — and there’s even talk of a spinoff. As a fan, I think Burton’s fingerprints on the show are a huge part of why it works, and I’m glad they’re keeping him close.
