Ralph Davis’ ‘House of the Dragon’ Role Was Short But Pretty Rough

The actor was first seen playing a minor character in House of the Dragon’s infamous season 2, but you likely won’t notice him in the show again.

Not many things occurred in House of the Dragon’s highly criticised sophomore season released last summer, but the show still introduced several new characters.

On the heels of Viserys I’s death in the first season, House of the Dragon picks up the story right ahead of the imminent war between the Targaryens who in the second season are seen assembling their allies for the future attacks.

Among those introduced in the instalment is also Ralph Davis’ character who, however, didn’t get to live much longer after the entire mess started.

Despite not being introduced in George Martin’s “Fire & Blood”, Leon Estermont is still a figure whose family has a high position in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” original novels.

In House of the Dragon, the character is presented as a member of King Aegon II Targaryen's Kingsguard and one of Aegon's friends who was also believed to stay this close to the king to eventually get a better job position.

However, even if Estermont saw the upcoming war as an opportunity to manifest his loyalty to Aegon, he wouldn’t have managed that anyway — in season 2, Leon becomes one of several victims during the riot in King’s Landing when the smallfolk protest Aegon’s decision to ignite a war.

The riot happens when Alicent and Helaena are noticed by citizens while leaving the Grand Sept, eventually causing a stir while Leon is trapped and beaten to death by a mob.

Emma D’Arcy Teases More Major Book Differences in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2

Even though having its own course has always been the main reason why both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon were slammed by critics and viewers, it seems like the prequel series has reached the point of no return.

Since both of the show’s seasons can’t be named faithful adaptations of Martin’s “Fire & Blood”, there might be in fact no reason to change that now, and Rhaenyra’s actor Emma D’Arcy sticks to the idea.

“Any sort of historical document tends to be deeply subjective and requires context for understanding. I feel that part of our job is to offer some of that context. But it’s funny, I wouldn’t go back to the book now, possibly until we finish this journey. House of the Dragon now needs to run its course”, they revealed in a recent interview with Awards Radar.

When Will ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Be Released?

The show’s next instalment will arrive on HBO Max sometime in 2026.
