Reasonable Doubt season 4 premiere and cast: three Hulu episodes are already out, picking up right after the gunshot at Jax's firm
Eleven months after one of TV's nastiest cliffhangers, Jax Stewart is back, and so is everyone who wants a piece of her new firm.
If you've been waiting since November 2025 to find out who Monica shot, Reasonable Doubt season 4 premiered October 6 on Hulu and Disney+ with three episodes at once. (Season 3 spoilers ahead, obviously.)
Quick refresher: Monica (Brandee Evans) was the manager who abused former child star Ozzie Edwards, the client Jax (Emayatzy Corinealdi) defended all of season 3. She blamed Jax for wrecking her career and reputation, walked into the opening of The Stewart Firm with a gun, and fired. The season 4 trailer settled it: she shot Jax.
Creator and showrunner Raamla Mohamed Hunter told EBONY she knew exactly who fans expected to take the bullet, and deliberately went the other way. She'd already set the bar for herself back in November 2025:
"My goal is to make the next season better than the last."

What's out, and what's next
The three premiere episodes are "Dead or Alive," "Excuse Me Miss," and "Ain't No Love (In the Heart of the City)." The season picks up three weeks after the shooting, with Jax's family and brand-new firm reeling and her old firm circling her clients. Per Hulu's synopsis, her most loyal client is also at the center of a media disaster, because of course he is.
The remaining seven episodes drop one per week, every Tuesday through the November 24 finale, for ten in total. A few outlets have been saying Thursdays. Disney's own episode guide says Tuesdays, and the calendar math only works on Tuesdays.
Morris Chestnut is back, too, and he gets the trailer's big bedside line:
"This is not the end of your story; it can't be."

Who's in it
- Emayatzy Corinealdi as Jax Stewart.
- McKinley Freeman as Lewis, Jax's husband.
- Tim Jo and Angela Grovey as Daniel and Krystal, holding the firm together while Jax can't.
- Durrell "Tank" Babbs, new series regular, as Eric Cropper, an R&B singer turned music mogul and Jax's longtime client. An R&B singer playing an R&B singer. Love that for him.
- Meagan Good, new series regular, as Regina Harris, the new district attorney.
- Morris Chestnut, Joseph Sikora, and Brandee Evans, returning.
- La La Anthony, Rutina Wesley, Taylor Polidore Williams, DeVaughn Nixon, and Alexxis Lemire, recurring. With Sikora already on board, Anthony's arrival makes this a small Power reunion.
One more thing for the newcomers: the show is named after Jay-Z's 1996 debut album, and most of its episode titles come from his catalog. The pilot, directed by executive producer Kerry Washington, was "Can't Knock the Hustle," and the series has since run through "Can I Live," "Feelin' It," "Song Cry," "Encore," and "On to the Next One." This season adds "Excuse Me Miss," and "Ain't No Love (In the Heart of the City)" is the Bobby "Blue" Bland song Jay-Z sampled for "Heart of the City" on The Blueprint.
