Things remain suspiciously quiet ever since the latest movie’s release.
Zack Snyder’s epic space opera franchise Rebel Moon came as the director’s project of passion with a huge budget, but some time might have passed since it’s no longer one of his priorities.
Launched in 2021, Rebel Moon started it all off on a very discouraging note, with the first movie, crashed by critics, passing on the torch of future failure to the next instalment that was released in 2023.
Since then, Snyder kept silent about Rebel Moon’s future chapters, even though he had earlier confirmed that four more movies would join the franchise at some point. Ahead of the second movie’s 2-year anniversary on Netflix, things with Rebel Moon seem to be complicated, and one of its actors has concerns too.
Patrick Luwis Confirms Rebel Moon 3 Isn’t in The Works
The actor, who starred in first two films alongside Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Michiel Huisman, Ed Skrein and Anthony Hopkins, revealed in an interview with Screen Rant that, as far as he could guess, the franchise’s next movie isn’t something Zack Snyder is currently working on.
According to Luwis, so far he hasn’t received any updates regarding a potential new chapter, but still would love to return to the story if he was given a chance to.
“It was such an incredible experience working with Zack, and that whole cast and crew was one of the best experiences I've had on set. So, I would be thrilled if they brought me back for the next movie, or whatever they're doing”, the actor highlighted, also adding that he’s sitting by the phone waiting for a call from Snyder.
Rebel Moon Franchise Was One of the Biggest Flops of Recent Years
In the light of Luwis’ recent revelations, it’s not really hard to guess why Zack Snyder isn’t rushing things with Rebel Moon.
Despite becoming big hits on Netflix, the franchise’s two first movies were met with harsh criticism and soon labeled as one of the worst stories Snyder has ever elaborated. Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire is currently holding 22% and 56% from critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, while Part Two - The Scargiver proved to be even worse with 16% and 47% respectively.
The latter also left the door open for a third movie, which is now a not so reliable option and increases the failed franchise’s chances to be left without a proper ending after all.
