Back in 2016, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in the midst of the Civil War storyline.

Fans were excited to see their favorite Marvel heroes take sides, but what if this story had taken place in the 1980s? A Reddit thread posed this question and the responses could not have been more right on money.

The thread, titled "So Now Let's Cast Civil War in the 1980s," was posted in the comic books subreddit in June 2016. The post asked for Redditors to cast the Civil War storyline using 80s actors.

Fans quickly responded with a plethora of ideas, one being more glorious than the other.

Fans created a whole 80s set of Avengers, starting with the obvious, Michael Douglas as Ant-Man (duh), and moving over to the likes of Richard Gere as Iron Man and Laurence Fishburne as Black Panther, that we never knew we needed.

Hawkeye? Kevin Costner! Winter Soldier? Charlie Sheen! Black Widow? Michelle Pfeiffer!

The fan-casting of an 80s Civil War turned out to be just the who's-who of 1980's nostalgia. And frankly, we wouldn't have it any other way.

Overall, the Reddit casting choices for Civil War in the 1980s were quite exciting and showed how iconic actors from that era could have brought these beloved Marvel characters to life.

It's interesting to think about what the MCU would have been like if it had been created in the 80s, but perhaps we have enough nostalgia with Stranger Things and other 80s throwback projects.

Regardless, revisiting this Reddit thread and imagining these actors in their prime as Marvel heroes is a fun exercise in fan casting.
