Imagining impossible recasts for one's favorite movies and shows by now became a fairly common form of entertainment on the web. And now Reddit provided us with another example of this fun game, recasting Game of Thrones with actors from the 1980s.

Highlights of the recast which caused little argument include Keeanu Reeves as Jon Snow, Michelle Pfeiffer as Cersei Lannister, Molly Ringwald as Sansa Stark, Jim Varney as Ramsay Bolton, Andre the Giant as Hodor, Danny DeVito as Tyrion Lannister, Cindy Crawford as Margaery Tyrell, Jane Fonda as Olenna Tyrell, Alyssa Milano as Arya Stark, Heather Locklear as Daenerys, John Malkovich as Varys, and Brigitte Nielsen as Brienne of Tarth.

Some casting choices however were disputed, and alternatives were offered.

Sean Penn was initially suggested for Robb Stark, but most people in the thread preferred Rob Lowe. Kiefer Sutherland was suggested for Jaime Lannister, but deemed not pretty enough, and more suitable for the role of Euron Greyjoy.

Patrick Swayze was chosen as the best possible Jaime by the upvote consensus – yet another, but less popular, suggestion was Brad Pitt.

Brian Blessed was suggested as a better alternative for John Candy as Robert Baratheon. Gary Oldman and Tom Cruise were suggested for Littlefinger, while both Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson were thought to be suitable for Eddard Stark.

Meanwhile, some actors were proposed for several different roles – Robert Englund for both Roose Bolton and Bronn, for example. Clint Eastwood got the most role nominations – Tywin Lannister, Barristan Selmy, Jorah Mormont and Stannis Baratheon.

Funnily, it was also suggested that Charles Dance should just stay as Tywin, because he looked little different back then in eighties.

There might be only one flaw in this recast – too much of it is based on similarity with the actors who actually were cast for Game of Thrones, rather than on suitability for the characters – several of the alternate actor suggestions seem to be aimed at fixing it. Well, that, and stuffing the list almost exclusively with A-tier actors, but that is the usual feature of such alternate casting lists.
