As fans of the hit medical drama The Resident know, rumors have been swirling that the fan-favorite character, Dr. Bell, might be leaving the show.

This news has left many fans wondering what could have caused such a shakeup and what this means for the future of the series. In this article, we'll explore the origins of these rumors and try to shed some light on what might be going on behind the scenes. So, without further ado, let's dive into the speculation surrounding Dr. Bell's possible departure and what the showrunner has to say about this!

Dr. Randolph Bell, who's portrayed by actor Bruce Greenwood, is the former CEO and Chief of Surgery at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, where the series takes place. He is a respected and experienced surgeon who also has a reputation for being tough and demanding. Although everything seemed to be perfect on the outside, we quickly found out he was hiding a hand tremor, which threatened the lives of his patients and his career.

But as bad as that may have looked at first, Dr. Bell was given a redemption arc, and fans started to love him more and more with each new season. In season 5, however, he received a shocking diagnosis – multiple sclerosis. Due to this turn of events, fans became understandably worried that Dr. Bell might be leaving the show.

However, the series co-creator Amy Holden Jones addressed the rumors in a hilarious way, and it turns out there's nothing to worry about. According to TVLine, Dr. Bell is not going anywhere, as Jones confirms there are no plans to build to that whatsoever.

“They’re not leaving, not at all. We’re not building to that,” Jones confirms, adding with a laugh, “Unless one of them has a horrible surprise to spring on me!”

In fact, fans can expect plenty of drama and heart in the upcoming season. According to the showrunner, we'll continue to follow along on Dr. Bell's testing journey of managing his fluctuating symptoms, possibly taking new professional avenues, and we might even see him operate again.
