Robert Downey Jr is one of the most commercially successful actors in recent history. He rose to worldwide fame as the iconic Marvel superhero Iron Man.
However, the path to his success is interesting enough. According to the actor, it all happened because of one box office flop he acted in 20 years ago: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
The movie premiered in 2005 and is widely considered great, earning an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. This neo-noir black comedy follows Harry Lockhart, a New York City thief who accidentally auditions for a movie role and finds himself in Los Angeles, where he becomes involved in a murder investigation.
Despite its $15 million budget, the film grossed only $15.8 million worldwide. This was a shocking box-office flop considering it was directed by the creator of the Lethal Weapon franchise and starred Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer, who were both big names at the time.
