Robert Eggers’ Next Movie ‘Werwulf’: Release Date, Cast, and Everything We Know So Far
Nosferatu’s director is coming back next year with a new horror movie next year, and it will star pretty much the same leading cast.
Despite not boasting of many directorial works for the moment, Robert Eggers has nonetheless become one of the main names in the world of cinematic horror.
Having debuted with 2015’s The Witch starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Eggers went on to direct several more successful horror movies, including The Lighthouse with Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe and 2024’s Nosferatu.
The latter became Eggers’ biggest box office success, allowing him to quickly jump onto a new project right after Nosferatu’s premiere.
Announced this January, Eggers’ next movie will reunite Nosferatu’s stars and might become the filmmaker’s most horrifying folklore-ish title yet.
Robert Eggers to Direct ‘Werwulf’ Next

Back in January, it was reported by Variety that Eggers was already working on his next feature titled Werwulf, less than a month after Nosferatu’s world premiere.
The project later was described as a folklore-centred horror revolving around a mysterious creature that haunts terrified villagers in 13-century England.
Several months later, a major update on Werwulf suggested that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe had joined the leading cast, all reuniting after working on Nosferatu together.
Nothing about their respective roles have been revealed so far, but filming was supposed to start in September and continue until the end of the year. In the United States, Werwulf is expected to be released on December 25, 2026.
‘Werwulf’ Is “the Darkest Thing” Robert Eggers Has Ever Written

If you left the theatre after watching Nosferatu thinking this was the most terrifying movie you’d ever seen, you better wait until Eggers’ next project premieres worldwide.
As the director revealed several months ago at a post-screening Q&A at the Lincoln Center, Werwulf is now set to become his darkest movie yet.
“It's a medieval werewolf movie and this is the darkest thing I have ever written, by far”, Eggers said.
Apart from that, World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy once suggested someone from Robert Eggers’ sound team had admitted to having needed a hug after reading Werwulf’s script, which might mean there will be something not only horrifying visually, but also devastating narratively.
