The horror master is clearly not a bird expert (unlike some of his fans).

Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated horror remake Nosferatu has recently become a new streaming darling, and now those who have had a chance to catch the flick in theatres can finally give it a rewatch on their home sofa.

However, for some of those revisiting Eggers’ new movie had quite a surprising outcome, resulting in a few fans pointing out the director’s tiny and, frankly, forgivable mistake.

Still, the discussion might be getting bigger, and its subject is likely to reach Eggers’ ears at some point — which, knowing the director’s meticulousness when it comes to making movies, might become a pretty upsetting discovery.

That Bird Song in Nosferatu Doesn’t Make Any Sense

This might seem like the last thing Nosferatu’s viewers would pay attention to, but one of the fans in fact caught Eggers lying about the fauna of the place where Nosferatu’s story unfolds.

On X, a user called yuribeast said that “in nosferatu there's a north american bird call in the background at some point and i felt like a huge geek for noticing.”

They later on proved their point by posting a clip from the movie and capturing it “I KNEW I WASNT TRIPPING. common loon call at 49:47. robert eggers [you're] under arrest”.

Those who had no idea what the whole matter was about were quick to ask Google for help, realising that the common loon is a diving bird that mostly inhabits North America.

Since Nosferatu takes place in a fictional town in Germany, there’s no way a common loon would somehow end up staying there; however, some still retorted, saying that the bird can in fact be found in Germany as well, but not during winter times, which is exactly the season in which the film’s storyline takes place.

Fans Joke Nosferatu Now Needs a New Director’s Cut

Considering how concerned Eggers can be about the accuracy of his own movies, some fans fear that the director will find out about the tiny mistake that might have slipped his attention and thus will do everything possible to right the wrong.

“You realize because it's Robert Eggers he's going to be genuinely upset when he finds out about this”, a fan called robstersauce predicted the director’s reaction in the same thread on X.

Another user heyyjohann chimed in, jokingly saying that “Eggers about to export DirectorsCut_finalFINAL_2.mov.”
