Rocky’s Role in Paw Patrol: Is He an Eco-Hero or Just the "Garbage Dog"?
The Paw Patrol’s most eco-friendly puppy, Rocky might not be that well understood by the show’s fans despite his important mission in the team — here’s why Paw Patrol’s viewers are divided about the character.
Having gone through a lot with several seasons and movie features ever since its launch back in 2013, Paw Patrol isn’t losing in its popularity, becoming a watch more and more compelling for both kids and adults with every new episode.
It might be that the show owes its immense success to its leading characters aka the cutest animated puppies out there, but mostly to these puppies’ unique traits and specific responsibilities in the Paw Patrol team.
This is what also made the puppy named Rocky stand out as a character speaking up about environmental issues — however, some fans also found an issue with that.

In the show Rocky is introduced as a mixed-breed pup who is responsible for recycling items and also fixing broken objects in the Paw Patrol team.
It’s not really surprising to see why Rocky has become a fan-favourite since he does have unique skills like using rubbish to invent new things, including some high-technology devices and solid energy constructs.
Apart from that, Rocky doesn’t go anywhere without his recycling truck where he stores old and used items which he can potentially use to create something new and useful for the entire team.
By the time Paw Patrol reaches its season 10, Rocky gets another special ability to lift and move any object that contains metal.
Some ‘Paw Patrol’ Fans Aren’t That Much Into Rocky

Even though Rocky has been a great help for the other puppies throughout the show’s run, some of Paw Patrol’s viewers had serious doubts about the character’s pivotal role in the team.
“Rocky is...the garbage dog. The trash collector. Why the fuck is he there? Why did Ryder decide a garbage collector job was necessary? To get rid of all municipal jobs in Adventure Bay? Was the Paw Patrol Ryder's idea in the first place?” Redditor teruteru-fan-sam ranted in a show-related thread, suggesting that, unlike other pups, Rocky doesn’t get to save lives.
However, the character quickly received some backup from other fans who retorted by saying that Rocky’s job might be even more important than some other puppies’.
“Have you ever been to a country without regular garbage pickup? Rocky is the real MVP, trust me bro”, lukify chimed in.
“And given the general messiness of the rest of the Paw Patrol, Rocky is even more vital. What happens after fires? Rocky happens. What about hazardous chemical runoff from emergency construction projects? Rocky is there”, randallflaggg added.
“Rocky is less about being a “garbage man” and more about being the catch-all handyman. They need a random object or part to fix something in Adventure Bay? Rocky has it in his truck! It’s a common trope”, kiwipaint commented.
