Star Wars fans might be counting months until they see Ryan Gosling up in space in Star Wars: Starfighter, but the actor is about to get an intergalactic journey much earlier in a highly anticipated book adaptation.
While the Star Wars flick isn’t coming to the screens until May of 2027, Gosling’s plans for the next year include the release of Project Hail Mary, a sci-fi movie based on Andy Weir’s Hugo Award-winning novel of the same name and also starring The Zone of Interest’s Sandra Hüller.
Project Hail Mary is currently scheduled for a March release in 2026, and the first official trailer has just made the book’s fans mark their calendars.
‘Project Hail Mary’ Gets Early Praise From the OG Book Fans
Even though it might be too early to judge the future movie by its first trailer, Project Hail Mary does seem to be a promising adaptation that, according to several fans, will likely be faithful to its original source material.

I’m so glad the movie kept that same sharp comedic tone, and Ryan Gosling is absolutely perfect in the lead role. Set in the near future, the original book’s plot centres on school teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace who wakes up on a spaceship without any idea of what he’s doing there.
However, he soon realises that he might be the only survivor of a crew that was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system to look for a solution to a catastrophe unfolding on Earth.
Trying to find the answers he needed, Grace relies on his own knowledge about science, though the problem is that he isn’t the only one looking for those answers.

The movie is scheduled for a release in theatres worldwide on March 20, 2026.
