Reddit detectives exposed a sneaky AI trick in Welcome to Wrexham.

Have you heard about Wrexham A.F.C. football club? Yes, Ryan Reynolds is one of the co-owners. They've even got a docuseries called Welcome to Wrexham that's on its second season now. Interestingly, eagle-eyed viewers noted that the series tried to pull a fast one on its audience.

The club, which has a rich history dating back to 1864, is based in North Wales. It's one of the oldest football clubs in the world and has a passionate fan base.

In 2020, the club made headlines when Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became its co-owners. The duo's involvement with the club brought it into the limelight, and Welcome to Wrexham was born to document the club's journey under its new ownership.

Right in the beginning of the fifth episode of season 2 of Welcome to Wrexham, there's a scene where they show a picture. The photograph captures a gathering of twelve gentlemen in an outdoor ambiance. According to the narrator, these men are supposed to be Welsh laborers.

You would think it's just a regular picture, but it is not. Sharp AI experts on Reddit pointed out that this picture is most likely AI-generated. Yep, the show tried to sneak in a picture created by artificial intelligence, thinking no one would notice.

For starters, there's a floating beer mug (because, why not?). One user humorously noted this man who seems to be holding multiple drinks at once, with an extra beer stein attached to his chest for good measure.

Then there's the guy on the left with some wonky eyes and a peculiar unrealistic left hand, — hands are the best way to spot an AI-generated picture. And there is a man on the far right who looks like he's straight out of a different era.

A user with a keen historical perspective noted that the image had several anachronisms. For instance, many of the men in the image are holding silver tankards, which working-class folks of the time wouldn't typically own.

Even though the show didn't outright say the picture was real, we might start seeing more of these AI-made images popping up in our media. That's just the way things are going nowadays.
