The Winchester brothers have posed as FBI agents many, many, many times, and their fake names are a work of art. Now it’s time to talk about their FBI outfits!

What comes to mind when you think of the ultimate FBI look? If you are a millennial, we bet it’s Scully and Mulder from The X-Files. A smart suit, a serious look, maybe even a pair of sunglasses – this is how we picture an FBI agent. Apparently, Sam and Dean did too.

Throughout the show, the brothers were quick to ditch their hunter gear and suit up whenever they needed to get the details from the local police. Surprisingly, it almost always worked!

One Reddit fan noticed a peculiar thing about the Winchesters ’ FBI outfits. They seemed to switch from plain suits to full-on trench coats on a whim, especially in later seasons. What might have been the reason?

Well, besides the obvious nod to The X-Files, the change in FBI disguise could be attributed to the one and only Castiel. Cas basically invented the trench coat look on Supernatural, so it’s no coincidence that Sam and Dean borrowed it.

Not just them – Jack sported a trench coat once or twice too (and it was actually in Cas’ signature color if we remember correctly).

The only way Dean could have been more obvious with his I’m-dressing-up-as-my-crush attitude would have been to wear a beige trench coat. Sam was just being a good bestie and covering up for his brother by wearing the same thing. That’s right, we went there.

All jokes aside, both Winchesters killed it in their FBI outfits, and a small part of us wishes they had worn them a bit more often (and by “a bit” we do mean like every other episode). Too bad The Winchesters has been canceled, and we won’t be seeing more of anyone in any outfit…
