Sam Rockwell’s Emmy Nomination Looks Even More Real After This The White Lotus Announcement

Continuing its run with a third season right now, Mike White’s feverish anthology series The White Lotus has always had a handful of shocking plot twists in store, yet it might be hard for any of those to compete with season 3 episode 5’s scene starring Sam Rockwell.

The latter’s explicit monologue that went on to last around 5 minutes left the show’s audiences in utter shock and had fans manifesting an Emmy nomination for Rockwell who, according to many, nailed the scene like nobody else.

However, the viewers’ words might in fact become a reality now that the actor is even more probable to receive the prestigious award’s nod.

Sam Rockwell Will Return in The White Lotus Season 3 Remaining Episodes

The Oscar-winning actor’s appearance, apparently, wasn’t just a guest role as, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rockwell will also appear in The White Lotus’s season 3 episodes 6, 7 and 8.

This means that the actor will be starring in exactly a half of the show’s third season, which automatically excludes him from the list of possible frontrunners for the Best Drama Guest Actor category. However, this doesn’t mean Rockwell won’t receive any nomination either; it’s just the Emmy rules that are pretty hard to follow.

According to the award’s own regulations, “Guest Performers are defined as appearing in less than 50% of all eligible series episodes”, which means Rockwell’s candidacy for Best Drama Guest Actor could’ve been submitted had he starred in less than four episodes of The White Lotus’ season 3.

Since the actor is now set to appear in exactly four episodes, he might be eligible for Best Supporting Role and not the guest category.

The White Lotus Season 3 Main Cast Keeps Praising Rockwell’s ‘Iconic’ Speech

Apparently, Mike White’s last-minute decision to cast Sam Rockwell for a recurring role turned into one of the highlights of this season or even the entire show.

Earlier, it was Rockwell’s co-star and close friend Walton Goggins who, while portraying Rick in the show’s season 3, gushed over the former’s performance, stating that there was no one else who could be able to handle this role so perfectly well.

Goggins is now also joined by Leslie Bibb, Sam Rockwell’s real-life partner and also The White Lotus co-star, who said the actor’s monologue was nothing short of iconic.

“I ran lines with him. I think that monologue is iconic and I think it’s really what the whole season is about — what Mike’s really saying there”, Bibb revealed during Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live (via Deadline).
