While fans continue to fight for new seasons of highly-rated shows like The OA, Syfy has renewed the frankly bad sci-fi project for another season.

All shows come to an end, and it's especially frustrating when your beloved series is axed after only a few episodes – a good half of projects end after their first season, but not all of them deserve to.

While sci-fi gems like Scavengers Reign and The OA are canceled after a season or two, projects with a 50% Rotten Tomatoes score and negative viewer reviews thrive.

Fans Are Outraged The Ark Has Been Renewed For Season 3

Recently, it was announced that Syfy's The Ark has been renewed for a third season, and the reaction from sci-fi fans has been less than positive. Redditor tonytown said:

“I cannot conceive how this banal show got renewed for a second, let alone third, season. There's not a metric where it doesn't fail.”

While the trend of viewers having to fight for the continuation of high-quality projects, and series like The Ark continuing to receive new seasons seems extremely unfair, the reason for this is quite obvious.

The Ark is a relatively cheap project (which can be seen in everything from the sets to the costumes), which allows the network to make a profit on the show.

What Is The Ark About?

The disaster on Earth had tragic consequences. Humans were forced to flee and were unable to cope with the task of maintaining the planet's viability.

As a result, humanity set out on the spaceship Ark One in search of a new home. The crew members have to act fast and confident to achieve their goals.

Of course, they must also search for a new meaning to life and come to terms with the idea that reality will never be the same as they knew it.

Even the Masters of Sci-Fi Couldn't Make The Ark a Worthy Show

On the one hand, the series is a collaboration between Dean Devlin, who worked on Stargate and Independence Day, and Jonathan Glassner, writer and producer of Stargate SG-1 and Odyssey 5.

On the other hand, a closer look reveals that this story looks like a hastily thrown together set of clichés. Or like a game simulator of troubles, where the writers constantly confront the characters with new difficulties.

The Ark Doesn't Justify Its Existence in the Era of High-Quality Sci-Fi Projects

The Ark had the potential to be, if not outstanding, at least one of the good sci-fi shows. Unfortunately, the creators' desire to cram too much into the show has resulted in weakly developed storylines and too many faceless characters.

Moreover, The Ark has no impressive visuals to compensate for the weak dramatic part. And here the question arises – why watch a frankly bad show in the age of the sci-fi renaissance on TV?
