O la la! Like all daytime soaps, The Bold and the Beautiful is a show that talks a lot of steam but pans away before we get too down 'n dirty.

But Scott Clifton, who plays perennial point-of-a-love-triangle Liam Spencer, has suggested a racy reason why the otherwise intelligent Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) might be so willing to come back to him over and over again.

Clifton has been playing Liam Spencer since 2010, when he appeared on the scene as the long-lost son of business tycoon Bill Spencer Jr. Since that point, Liam has been the centre of many deliciously lunatic plots, most of which involve him bouncing between Steffy and Hope like a horny, sociopathic soccerball.

He's been married to both women more than once, and for some reason they both keep taking him back, even though he's pulled such bizarre stunts as…

After Hope sees her fiancé Liam kissing Steffy, she pulls off her engagement right in disgust. Minutes later, Liam proposes to Steffy… using the same ring. DUDE. Give it a day! Or at least a different ring!

When Liam and Hope were supposed to wed (this is after his marriage to Steffy guys, keep up), a misunderstanding made him think that she had left him. Did he wait to confirm that info? No. He made out with Steffy and decided to re-unite with her. Of course, when the misunderstanding was revealed, he had to UN-re-unite with Steffy, turn around, and get married to Hope.

Tricked into believing that Steffy was hooking up with Bill, Liam abandoned her to get re-engaged to Hope. When he learned the truth, he called off the wedding with Hope and started planning a wedding with Steffy. Then he found out that Hope was pregnant with his baby.

When Steffy mistakenly thinks Liam has dumped her (do these people NEVER learn?), she turns to his half-brother Wyatt for comfort. Liam sees them together, and instead of saying "wait, did you think I dumped you?" he storms off, gets kidnapped by Wyatt's mom, gets amnesia, and ends up living in the woods, believing that he and Wyatt's mom are Adam and Eve.

Okay, technically that last one isn't about the Steffy/Liam/Hope love triangle, but it's so majestically bonkers I just had to bring it up.

So why do these women keep taking Liam Spencer back? In a 2021 interview, Clifton jokingly revealed what he thought was "actually the most plausible answer": Liam must be seriously well endowed. (And he doesn't mean with money, y'all.)

Clifton's co-star Annika Noelle agreed with his theory, saying that a magically enormous – er… "package" – is the only reason she can think of that her character Hope Logan was willing to continuously take Liam back.

After more than a decade, the love triangle seems to have taken a back seat for a while. Hope has won out, and Steffy has moved on to hunky Doctor Finn. But after 12 years, we find it hard to believe that we've seen the last of this trio.
