NBC’s hit medical sitcom has just received a major reboot update, but Scrubs’ fans aren’t sure you can even call it a reboot after all.

Things are getting back to normal at the Sacred Heart, with Scrubs reboot now being officially in the works at ABC more than a decade after the original show wrapped up.

Following Zach Braff and Donald Faison’s J.D. and Christopher, Scrubs tracked down the initially young interns’ professional path throughout eight seasons, focusing on a different set of characters in the final season 9 released back in 2010.

Now the show’s future reboot is about to get back to its roots, with Braff, Faison and Sarah Chalke coming on board to reprise their respective roles.

However, even with the leading actors showing up for the upcoming series, this might not be the same story acted out differently — like any other reboot would usually do.

‘Scrubs’ Reboot Will Still Follow the OG Show’s Main Characters

Even though the news claimed that Scrubs would get a literal remake, these reports’ actual updates on the future show suggest otherwise.

According to Deadline, the series will get some sort of continuation rather than a reboot, following “JD Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time”.

There will still be some new characters though, joining Scrubs’ regulars to navigate through hardships at the Sacred Heart Hospital “with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way”.

It’s also believed that the original show’s other regular Judy Reyes will be coming on board for the continuation too, since so far there’s no scheduling conflict with her ongoing crime drama hit series High Potential.

‘Scrubs’ Fans Don’t Get “Reboot” Thing (but Still Excited About It)

It’s not yet clear why exactly the future series was labeled as a reboot anyway, and fans aren’t really seeing anything being remade whatsoever.

“I hate that they keep calling this a reboot when it's clearly a sequel”, Redditor Superb-Obligation858 said in a thread.

“So not a reboot then, a sequel series likely acting as a soft reboot”, xrufus7x agreed.

Others, however, seemed to be caring more about how exactly Scrubs’ reboot / sequel will connect to the original series’ often controversial ending.

“I wonder how they explain and finesse the way the original show ended so this all makes sense as a continuation”, unitedfan6191 said, adding that they will be watching the upcoming show just because “this is my favorite sitcom of all time”.

“Given that the original showrunner is back with the main cast, I’m optimistic about this one. Bill Lawrence killed it with the original run, and the success of Ted Lasso shows he still has his finger on the pulse”, Talk-O-Boy revealed.
