Season 2 of 100%-Rated Animated Sci-Fi Wonder Lands First-Ever US Streaming Home
And you don't want to miss this one.
In 2023, AMC canceled several projects at once. Among them were sci-fi series: the comedy Demascus, the dystopian Moonhaven and the animated series Pantheon.
Pantheon, based on the short stories of science fiction writer Ken Liu, fared the worst. The first season of Pantheon began in 2022. The network ordered two seasons at once, and when the second was ready to air AMC just axed it.
Pantheon Season 2 Is About to Drop on Netflix
Eventually, the second season did see the light of day – it was bought by Amazon to be shown on its streaming Prime Video. However, there's a catch – the second season was only available in New Zealand and Australia.
Now the second season of Pantheon is getting its first official launch in all countries – the series will be available on Netflix on February 21.
What Is Pantheon About?
Maddie comes home from school and immediately turns on the computer. Two years ago, Maddie's father, programmer David, died, and the girl has been in a constant state of mourning ever since.
One day, Maddie sees an encrypted chat appear on the computer screen. Through this chat, an unknown person is communicating with her using emojis. She immediately realizes it is either a stalker or someone close to her.
After a few days Maddie has no doubts – it is definitely her late father. It turns out that before his death, David gave his consent to the company Logorhythms to digitize his consciousness. However, according to the company, this digitization went wrong.
Pantheon Is a Masterfully Crafted Sci-Fi Thriller with The Matrix Vibes
After pretending to be a personal drama of a girl without a father, the series goes in the direction of a thriller, building suspense through digital tracking of characters.
But first and foremost, Pantheon is a science fiction thriller. The surreal digital world here is presented in the best tradition of The Matrix.
Just as the Wachowskis' characters simulated Neo's training room, the protagonists of Pantheon do the same, creating a space for work and communication that even living people can peer into with the help of VR.
Pantheon turned out to be a complex science fiction adventure in the near future. Its ideas are not unique, but they are presented from an unusual, unfamiliar angle, which was appreciated by viewers – the series has 100% from critics and 94% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
