Although the world is making progress toward gender equality, there are still many places in the world and many male-dominated industries where women face constant discrimination. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry remains one of those areas, no matter how many talented and powerful female artists it produces.

As bad as things are now for all the young actresses, singers and models just starting to make their way up the Hollywood ladder, things were even worse in the 90s. The more the public learns about the way the most popular actresses were treated, the more obvious the need for change becomes.

Sharon Stone, who shot to fame in 1992 with the release of Basic Instinct, has positioned herself as one of the beacons of truth and advocates for action.

Although Sharon Stone's 2021 book, The Beauty of Living Twice, offers an in-depth look at some of the horrific cases of manipulation, humiliation, and other forms of mistreatment she faced in the industry, it doesn't cover everything. This does not mean that the actress has chosen to turn a blind eye to these situations, but she continues to deal with them privately.

In an interview with InStyle, Sharon Stone admitted to having a list of all the men who have crossed her path and disrespected her in the past. Unfortunately, no matter how much support she's gotten over the years, it doesn't seem like anyone from said list is trying to redeem themselves.

“One of the people came and sat down next to me and said, ‘If I’ve done something, please let me know.’ I said, ‘It’s time for you to stand up or I’m going to start explaining out loud to everybody here what it is that you did. Those are your two choices,” the actress recalled.

Burned by many instances of mistreatment, the actress noted that she's now learned to set much-needed boundaries. Knowing your limits and making sure everyone around you knows and respects them isn't always easy. But it has done wonders for her mental health as well as her physical safety.
