Fans Aren’t Buying the Hype Around ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Possible Renewal

HBO’s next Game of Thrones prequel might have just secured itself a pretty bright future, but some think it might not be for long after all.
Another part of Westerosi history is seemingly getting more time for exploration in the upcoming prequel series, though it might be just a little bit too presumptuous even for George Martin’s vast lore.
Coming to the screens ahead of House of the Dragon’s season 3, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will centre on the life and adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg aka Prince Aegon Targaryen.
Initially slated for a 2025 release, the show’s first season was rescheduled and now is several months away from premiering on HBO Max.
However, Game of Thrones’ new spinoff might have too much faith from its creators, and fans don’t think it’s a good sign.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Reportedly Renewed For Seasons 2 and 3 Ahead of Season 1 Release
Though nothing has been confirmed officially so far, the industry’s trusted insider DanielRPK repeatedly proved himself right in the past, now claiming that the upcoming series has already been greenlit for seasons 2 and 3 months before the first instalment will likely land on HBO Max.
This, however, doesn’t seem like a big surprise since HBO executive Francesca Orsi had hinted at the show ending up with three seasons in total before.
“We’re already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total. We’re not picking it up officially, but it’s looking very good. We’re looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there’s three novellas”, Orsi said in an interview with Deadline back in February.
Aside from that, George Martin also confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ second season was already in the works this March.
“I've seen Dunk and Egg, the first season, and it's great, and now they're working on the second season”, the writer told Collider at the world premiere of In the Lost Lands in Santa Fe.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Might Not Even Reach Its Season 3, Some Say
While HBO’s real plans are yet to be revealed officially sometime before or after the show’s first season premieres, Game of Thrones’ fans think the whole renewal thing might be a tricky technique used to manipulate potential viewers into thinking that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms can be just as good as it gets.
“Movies and shows these days tend to announce additional seasons/movies/trilogies not because they have any real tangible plans in place, but to create hype and project confidence for that one single movie or a single season - which should help it succeed and hopefully kickstart a movie franchise or a longer show”, Redditor KekeBl suggested in a thread.
“Without knowing if the general public will care about it? That could be such a bold move or a desperate tentative to have a back-up plan…” Eastern_Confusion_17 agreed.
What’s more, some fans don’t seem to be fine with Martin’s follow-up novels about the same characters, which those two seasons will likely be based on.
“I only liked the first story. 2 & 3 were general mesh that didn't really have any direction”, kingjavik commented.
Meanwhile, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ first season is expected to be released sometime in the first half of 2026.
