Will 'Cold Storage' Work as a Film? The Author Wrote the Script, Liam Neeson’s in the Trailer, and Fans Debate

Another twist in Neeson’s unexpected career reinvention.
Keeping an eye on book-to-screen adaptations is always a bit of a gamble — especially when the author is the one writing the script. Cold Storage, a dark horror-comedy based on David Koepp’s 2019 novel, might be one of those cases worth watching closely.
Set for release in 2026, Cold Storage follows two workers at a storage site on a former military base, where a mutating fungus escapes — and people start exploding. Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell play the unlucky pair; Neeson arrives to restore order — or at least silence.
The film is directed by Jonny Campbell (Westworld, Dracula) and backed by StudioCanal and Samuel Goldwyn Films. But the biggest curiosity is Koepp himself, who adapted the screenplay from his own book. It’s a rare case where the author is both fully in charge — and fully exposed.
Online, reactions are already rolling in — especially on Reddit, where book fans and genre enthusiasts are weighing in.
"Oh I read the novel that was pretty fun, and this seems like a very faithful adaptation," wrote TrueLegateDamar.
"Holy Crap! I thought this might be a clock-punch movie by Neeson; but it looks pretty good! Colorful, interesting camera work, cool creature effects... AND EXPLODING HEADS!" shared Ceilibeag.
"Are we in the Liam Neeson renaissance era?" noted Alastor3.
It’s hard not to smile at that last comment. Because while Neeson has never really gone away, this recent wave of strange, dryly comic roles — from The Naked Gun reboot to this — feels like something different. Not quite a full reinvention, but certainly a curveball.
And readers seem genuinely invested in how the story makes the leap to screen:
"Novel was fire. Also pretty excited to see Joe Keery continue his career outside of Stranger Things," added Renegadeforever2024.
"I can sense on-screen chemistry and comedy gold with Joe Keery and Liam Neeson," pointed out vayn0r.
So — will it work? The trailer leans into chaos, colour, and creature feature fun. But adaptations are tricky things. Faithfulness doesn’t always mean success.
