Netflix's latest obsession, Sirens, has fans diving deep into theories about which character truly embodies the mythological creature. Stay tuned to find out the answer! There’s a catch…

Whenever a new mystery show arrives on a streaming platform, I'm the first to watch it. It was the same with Netflix’s Sirens. With its promising cast and intriguing synopsis, it was clear that it was going to be a wild ride, and it did live up to my expectations.

The five-part limited series, starring Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, and Milly Alcock, weaves a dark tale of manipulation, exceptional wealth, and dangerously close relationships that has fans debating one central question: who is the real siren in the show called Sirens?

Kiki

The show centers on Fahy’s Devon DeWitt, a woman struggling with sobriety and caring for her aging father with dementia. She also becomes concerned about her sister Simone’s unhealthy relationship with her new boss Michaela Kell, an enigmatic socialite and philanthropist. It seems just too close (the “take my gum” moment still haunts me).

At first glance, Moore's Michaela seems to be the obvious siren. She embodies the classic image of a seductive and powerful figure who lures others into her web. The visuals of the series even make it seem as if people are literally succumbing to her aura when she is with them. It's a perfect example of siren-like manipulation.

Simone

However, many viewers theorize that Simone is actually the true siren. The younger DeWitt sister has positioned herself perfectly within Michaela's inner circle and may be using her allure to gain access to wealth and power.

Context: According to the myth, sirens lured sailors to their doom with their beautiful voices. That’s precisely what she does at the end of the series: she steals the life she wants and gets rid of those who no longer serve her well.

Devon?

The reason we can include Devon on this list is simple: her influence over men. They literally follow her even when she tells them not to. Is there any other enigmatic vibe coming from her? I don't think so.

Why not: She is the most down-to-earth person in the entire series. She only uses “sirens” as a code, a cry for help. This means that she probably wants to be a siren but is too down-to-earth to get caught up in the mystery.

Peter Kell!

My take: The actual siren of the show is Peter and here is my explanation. He had a happy marriage before Michaela, but then he was bored and threw it all away, just to lure Kiki in.

When he became bored with her, he did the same with Simone, making her his next queen for another period of fun. He even managed to fool Devon that he is a good guy, practically the only sane person on an island.

So, it seems that Sirens has reversed the myth's concept and altered the power dynamics. However, the show's brilliance lies in its refusal to provide easy answers. And the real siren in Netflix's new mystery series may be just a concept rather than a single character with clear supernatural powers.
