Slow Horses season 7 release date and season 8 renewal: Apple just committed all the way to the final Lamb novel
Apple's most dependable spy shop got its future locked in writing this month — and the paperwork says more about the show's endgame than any trailer could.
Slow Horses returned for season 6 on September 16 — with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, because of course — and Apple marked the occasion by doing something streamers have essentially stopped doing: it renewed the show for season 8 a full day before season 6 premiered, with season 7 already shot and waiting.
Jay Hunt, Apple TV's creative director, delivered the renewal announcement in the appropriate register, saying she was
"delighted that Jackson Lamb and his gang of lovable misfits will be back."
The dates, as far as they exist
Apple hasn't stamped calendars, but this show runs on rails, and the cast knows it. Christopher Chung — Roddy Ho himself — was asked at the season 6 TIFF premiere about a 2027 launch for season 7 and confirmed the obvious:
"I think it's been pretty much like clockwork since season 3."
The clockwork, spelled out:
- Season 6 — streaming now, finale lands October 21, 2026; it weaves two Mick Herron novels, Joe Country and Slough House, into one season.
- Season 7 — already filmed, adapts Bad Actors (the mole-in-government one), and every signal points to fall 2027.
- Season 8 — newly ordered, six episodes, with Adam Randall directing all of them, expected 2028 on the same annual cadence.
The part that should worry you slightly
Season 8 adapts Clown Town — the ninth Slough House novel, published in September 2025, and the final one currently in existence. Apple has now officially committed through the last page Mick Herron has written. The show that famously never runs out of runway has, for the first time, a visible end of the tarmac: Herron plans a tenth novel, but it has no title and no date, and the series' Game of Thrones-adjacent math is suddenly real — though the 2028 timeline conveniently gives him a couple of years to type.
Note what Apple is actually doing here: pre-buying the entire remaining supply of a finite resource. In a streaming era of one-season cancellations, that's the loudest compliment a corporation can pay.
The show, meanwhile, keeps collecting hardware — Saul Metzstein just won the directing Emmy for the season 5 finale "Scars" — and with season 8, it extends its lead as the longest-running drama Apple TV has ever made.
