Somehow, THIS Is Sylvester Stallone’s Highest-Grossing Movie (And Not Rocky)
Let's see what this freshly-elected politician has earned for both of them.
There are very few names in Hollywood whose legacy can be compared to that of Sylvester Stallone. He has starred in numerous hits that have been massive box office successes and have earned him worldwide acclaim.
His path to popularity was not easy: he had many minor TV appearances and insignificant roles in movies before he landed his first big role. But in 1976, everything changed when he wrote the script of a sports drama called Rocky and took the leading role in it. The movie became a huge hit and basically started Stallone’s legendary career.
“This film is a masterpiece. What I find most striking is how it's filmed and the dialogue. It's filmed almost like a documentary, in a way, most of the film doesn't even have a cinematic quality to it. But this ends up elevating the film, because it feels so raw and real,” Redditor ThrowawayTiredow said.
While Rocky was a real phenomenon, it’ll be strange if the first movie Stallone has ever starred in ended up being his highest-grossing. Although it made $225 million, which would now be more than $1 billion.
After that his career took off and he appeared in hits like First Blood, Cop Land, Assassins and more. But in 2010, he appeared in the franchise called The Expendables, and that was the new beginning. The role of Barney Ross was perfect for Stallone, and it ended up bringing him the big bucks.
So the second part of the franchise, The Expendables 2, grossed a total of $311,979,256 and is the highest grossing movie Stallone has ever starred in. Maybe the fact that it was the first time he and Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared together on the big screen had something to do with it? Guess we’ll never know.
You can stream all four The Expendables movies on Roku.
