Although we did not see the thief's face, we can pretty much figure out who it was and why he did it.

Squid Game has come to an end, answering almost all of the questions that worried viewers and presenting a couple of new mysteries.

In the sixth episode finale, someone breaks into Seong Gi-hun's hotel room and steals his money. Who was it, and why did they do it?

The Money Was Stolen by The Front Man Himself

In Season 2, Gi-hun left the money he received for winning the games in an abandoned hotel that he used as a base for his search party.

After his death, someone broke into the hotel and stole all the money. Only police officer Hwang Jun-ho, the Front Man's brother, and his assistant knew about the money. They both honestly admitted that they did not know where the money went.

In Season 2, In-ho easily prevented Gi-hun's gang from capturing him when they set up an ambush to catch the Front Man. He had been watching Gi-hun and Jun-ho for all three years after the events of Season 1, so he could predict their actions.

It probably wouldn't have been difficult for him to find out what Gi-hun was doing at the hotel or what he was keeping there. Therefore, the mysterious thief was the Front Man himself.

What Does In-ho's Gift to Gi-hun's Daughter Mean & Why Is It Significant?

Then, In-ho traveled to Los Angeles and gave Gi-hun's daughter a gift from her late father. The box contained a bank card with the money from the hotel, confirming the theory about the thief's identity.

The Front Man also placed the bloody uniform of the Player 456 inside the box, considering the clothes to be a symbol of Gi-hun's sacrifice.

Lee Byung-hun, who played the Front Man, made it clear that Gi-hun's sacrifice restored In-ho's humanity – or at least some of it. In an interview with Netflix Tudum, the actor said:

“That actually highlighted the fact that he has that last remaining piece of humanity deep down somewhere. That's the agreement that director Hwang and I came to. That's how I played my character. Front Man has that last piece of benevolence remaining inside of him.”

Gi-hun caused the Front Man to doubt the necessity of organizing the games. Therefore, In-ho interfered with the fates of the families of players 456 and 222, leaving their children with the "inheritance" of their parents.

In the scene with Gi-hun's daughter, In-ho's fear of looking her in the eyes speaks to the Front Man's shame and doubts.
