And he is absolutely right.

Stephen King is called the King of Horror for a reason. The author's ability to combine everyday reality with the terrifying in his stories has earned him worldwide popularity.

The author's books have been adapted numerous times, and King himself loves watching movies and TV series. Does the King of Horror watch horror movies? Of course he does. And not only does he watch them, he shares his opinions and recommends the best flicks.

One of King's latest recommendations is a Spanish horror movie that was released three years ago.

Stephen King Praises Caye Casas' The Coffee Table

The film titled The Coffee Table received a fairly high rating for the genre of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and is known only in narrow circles of fans of unusual horror movies.

Stephen King expressed his opinion in a now-deleted tweet on X:

“There's a Spanish movie called The Coffee Table on Amazon Prime and Apple TV+. My guess is you have never, not once in your whole life, seen a movie as black as this one. It's horrible and also horribly funny. Think the Coen Brothers' darkest dream.”

After watching this movie, you will understand that this is a very accurate description of what is happening on the screen.

What is The Coffee Table About?

Jesús and María love each other, but they grew apart during pregnancy, and María has made all the decisions about their family, from the color of the walls to the name of their newborn son.

Now the couple is in a furniture store and Jesús, trying to take the initiative and prove that he can make decisions too, persuades his wife to buy a coffee table with unbreakable glass.

The couple argues in front of the salesman, but in the end the table ends up in their apartment. This decision will change the lives of both Jesús and María forever.

The Coffee Table Is a Horror Flick Made in 10 Days that Shows What Real Suspense Is

Despite the lack of mass popularity, Caye Casas' horror movie in the shell of a social drama won the Best Film Award of the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and a number of other prestigious awards.

Despite the sensitivity of the film's subject matter, which we will not name to avoid spoilers, The Coffee Table, shot in just ten days and built mainly on dialogue, will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last minute.

The main plot twist will not only keep you guessing throughout the entire movie, but will also bring the suspense level to a maximum near the finale.
