Fans Think They Know What James Gunn’s Next Super-Family Movie Will Be

Gunn has been long rumored to be developing a sequel to Superman, but some think the director’s next project might not be about David Corenswet’s character... only.
It’s been only about a month since James Gunn’s Superman kicked it off in theatres worldwide, and the director has already turned to something else.
Soon after Superman’s release on July 11, a rumour spread about Gunn already working on a potential sequel, though he never confirmed whether something he’d been developing would be linked to Superman whatsoever.
Now that the news about Gunn directing one more movie for DC has become official, the mystery is still out there, but some fans have already lost their hope for a direct Superman sequel. Instead, they’d love to see a team-up.
James Gunn to Direct ‘Super-Family’ Next Movie
Now that Gunn’s Superman flew just as high as $580 million in the box office, it seems like the director could take the superhero’s story in whatever direction — or expand it with new, but already familiar characters.
Though details are still under wraps, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has recently confirmed that James Gunn would be directing “the next installment in the Super-Family” (shared by Variety).
Gunn will also write the screenplay, which he seemingly hinted at several days ago while replying to a fan’s comment on Threads.
DC Fans Are Convinced James Gunn’s Next Movie Is Superman/Supergirl Crossover
While Gunn’s new version of Supergirl starring House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock is yet to hit the screens sometime next year, the movie might be signalling the start of Superman and Supergirl’s work together in some sort of spinoff.
“It's definitely a Superman and Supergirl team-up movie. Interest in Supergirl is pretty high after her cameo in Superman so if her movie goes over well, the hype for this next movie will be pretty substantial”, Redditor mobpiecedunchaindan commented in a thread.
“Yep, giving them a team-up movie is a smart strategy to consolidate budgets rather than giving them their own expensive sequels”, NoNefariousness2144 agreed.
“Going to be interesting to see how Gunn will handle the clash of ideologies and moral complexities of the two. But no clue on the villain. Brainiac or save him for the Justice League movie”, Vonkruel said.
In the meantime, Superman is still playing in theatres worldwide.
